Only God Remains is my third ebook. Like the first two, it is an account of my daily life and my internal work on myself. This time, I asked Elsa Joy Bailey if she would write a Foreword for me. Here it is:
FOREWORD
Don’t come to Vicki for easy flowers. It’s not that she doesn’t love flowers. It’s just that she doesn’t want you to think you’re separate from the flower, or that you’re deprived if you don’t
have one perched in your buttonhole. Present or not, she wants you to carry its aroma into your crazy day.
Vicki doesn’t tolerate memorized “awakenings.” She knows they won’t do you any good. She’s like the surgeon who sees your shoulder is out of its socket. “It hurts horribly.” you say. “Ouch!” you say. “Don’t touch me,” you say.
“Take a deep breath,” she warns, and then with one brutal yank — the errant shoulder is back in place. The pain of course is gone. “Couldn’t you have been more gentle with that?” You ask.
“Nobody could have been more gentle with that.” replies Vicki.
She’s right. Good teachers yank your ego hard, and if you’re paying attention, freedom happens.
If you want your day to sing, take one of Vicki’s luminous talks and sip it like a cup of healing tea. Bring it into your silence, the place where you actually live and thrive, and let it cover you. You won’t be sorry.
Afterwards, give thanks.
“What is love?”asked a student.
“The total absence of fear.” said the teacher.
“What is it we fear?”asked the student.
“Love,” replied the teacher .
That teacher was Anthony de Mello.
He would have loved Vicki!
