So today Funky’s Junk Removal came to haul away my “vintage” TV and the tall heavy armoire in which it was located. Two men, one burly and the other, slim came to do the work.
They didn’t even take the TV out of the armoire. They had a time trying to even begin to move it. It tilted crazily a few times as they tried to get enough purchase on it to start its journey through the kitchen and out the door. My blood pressure was already rising! I raced into my bedroom to grab a throw to put over the club chair that it was narrowly close to. I was fanning myself and saying all kinds of excited things, as if my very words could make them avoid major damage to any of my furniture.
I followed them out to the truck and to my dismay, I saw that it was 80% full already. Slim stood in the truck bed amongst Christmas decorations and old furniture. He was feverishly trying to pitch things on top of what was already there so they could somehow squeeze this tall piece of furniture in. “Burly” was trying, by brute force, to shove this mammoth piece into an already crowded truck.
I noticed that my prized Japanese Maple tree had a bough hanging right into the truck bed and I begin to plead with them not to injure it. I’m sure I was wringing my hands and babbling incoherent words.
Next, they had to move the TV cabinet upstairs downstairs and put it where the armoire had been. They also got rid of my old brown recliner in the kitchen and brought a leather one downstairs to put in its place. It looks good!
After they carried a few bags of stuff, an old computer and a dead tuner and an old VCR out the door, I wrote them a check and tipped them generously. (At least I think it was generous.)
When they left, I had aged ten years. But now the first step in downsizing has been made. In the future it won’t be nearly as hard to get rid of things.

Wringing our hands and mumbling to ourselves —- our most likely behavior pattern when our “things” are being moved by others. I hope your Japanese maple tree was unscathed! Yes — it shall be easier in the future. Good to know, right?!! I’m glad your leather recliner looks nice downstairs. Take several long breaths and ease on down into your chair and just be. Love and peace to you.
Now I need to buy a TV to replace my old one, but not today!
Yay!! One nervous step for Vicki…one giant step forward for the future. I know how you feel. I get fidgety too when “visitors” come to my house and do things! It usually all works out…whew. “Burly” was here about a month ago to fix the furnace. It took him three hours to replace a part the size of a ball point pen. Of course he had to go back to the shop to get the new part. Hence a exorbitant final bill was presented that literally raised my blood pressure even though I’m on a BP lowering med! Maybe “Slim” would have been cheaper and quicker, lol.
Switching furniture up can give you a fresh state of mind…so recline and relax and have a cup of joe, or whatever is your cup of tea! Much love.
It was fun writing the essay but not while they were here! I can’t decide on what kind of TV to get, so Rob says I need to relax and I say, “But I want it now”….sorta like a toddler.
