The Kind of World You Experience
The outer matches the inner. In so many words, that is what Vernon Howard taught. Since that is true, it should solve all of our problems. We should change our inner world instead of trying to change our outer one. But wait, it’s not that simple or we would all be able to do it. Gurdjieff said that man cannot do, that everything happens in the only way that it can happen.
Jesus put forth his teaching of “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” That points in the same direction.
Our lives are weary repetitions because we live mechanically instead of consciously. We don’t take our lives seriously enough in my opinion. Yes, Jesus spoke the truth, but that doesn’t mean that we follow it.
How do we put the truth into practice? Only by witnessing what actually happens to us on a daily basis. If things go wrong, what part did we play in it? Did we actually try to love ourselves? If so, then we would also be able to love our neighbors.
I used to write down sentences of Vernon’s that I needed to practice. Here is what he said:
“The kind of world you experience outwardly is the same kind of world that you are inwardly.”
I am going to write that sentence out and try my best to apply it today. It couldn’t hurt!

Vicki,
Good words from Vernon! Nope, cannot hurt to to try to put that into practice. I love your question; “Did we actually try to love ourselves?” This is like a shortcut to get us to the core issues.
Thank you friend,
Tami
The words, “I choose to love myself” are very important words, for sure.
Gurdjieff gave us many truths that are hard to accept. I think that is the case with all good teachers. Two truths you wrote above are “man cannot do;” and “everything happens in the only way that it can happen.” There are so many negative things happening in the world; therefore, I believe it important to address something quite positive. For all your readers, without any of our interventions, plans or the like; we have been blessed that you happened in our lives!!
We treasure your words more than can be expressed. Namaste.
Thanks, Ruth. The real road feels rocky, but ultimately it will be the easiest.
