I am so glad the holiday weekend is over! I went to bed before eleven and slept like a rock. I had a wonderful dream in which a tall rather shabbily-clad man and I had a conversation about humor. We understood each other and I was so gratified to have found this kind of friend.
He introduced me to his friend, who also was a humorist. I felt like I had found my tribe at long last, even if it was a small one. When I woke up this morning, the good vibes of the dream were still there. Those of you who know me know how much I love humor. I try to seed it into my essays when I can.
Humor is not generally a part of the enlightenment tradition. That is too bad sense our suffering could be somewhat alleviated by a good belly laugh or even a gentle chuckle. Can you imagine the Last Supper with one of the disciples wearing a trick flower?
Being inappropriate is often what humor is about. A good hearty laugh can set many a pharisee fleeing from a genuine belly laugh. Just look how much good Will Rogers did; he would have punctured Trump’s grandiosity in seconds.
Yes, waking up is important, but staying loose plays a huge part in it. My disciplinarian mind forgets how funny the human situation is, but my soul remembers.
Today I am going to hang loose and stay cool. One is never too old to laugh until they wet their pants….
