I cancelled my appointment with the dental hygienist today. (And I sure didn’t mind!) The email from my physician’s office says they are accepting cancellations and will phone in prescriptions if necessary. All this to say that in this life there are no guarantees. Karma operates inexorably.
I don’t mind staying away from people; in fact, I enjoy it! I see them when I grocery shop, etc. and everyone is very friendly. But as Vernon Howard said, “Be polite but don’t expect anything but that.”
Yes, Vernon was a tough, tough teacher so he was inwardly very kind. Paradox is a great instructor. When he died, his students grieved deeply for he had been deeply loved by them. I never had an outer relationship with him, but felt that I did inwardly and that remains a mystery.
My online writing comes from a place that has nothing to do with friendship; that is secondary. Apparently I agreed to spend this life writing about spiritual matters; after all that is what I love to do and what I am qualified to do. All I need is this Mac and my inner teacher. The outer teachers have all disappeared. That is as it should be.
So let’s get on with the teaching of the day. Don’t expect anything from people and you won’t be disappointed. That is a hard lesson for me, believe you me. I have had to be let down again and again in order for this lesson to begin to be heard.
Instead, expect things from yourself. Perhaps make an aim and see how well you can follow it. A word of caution: Vernon said we make aims in order to see how we can’t keep them. If you want a few suggestions, I will give some.
I will not eat in order to calm myself today.
I will not talk about my problems.
I will refuse to let negativity enter my mind.
I will leave you with those.
And remember to work hard gathering energy. That you can do!

Haha,-‘We make aims in order to see how we can’t keep them.’ And, ‘Paradox is a great instructor.’
Vicki, thank you. 😃
I will try and share some more tidbits like this as I remember them from The Work.
“Don’t expect anything from people and you won’t be disappointed. That is a hard lesson for me, believe you me. I have had to be let down again and again in order for this lesson to begin to be heard.” ~ Today’s lesson certainly hits home for me. Thank you, Vicki.
It is a hard lesson and actually we never totally learn it, do we? It is just the way life is set up, that’s all. Why? Because all reward must come from within!
