Rainy Days and Remembrance of Leonard Cohen

It rained all day yesterday. I sat around listlessly and couldn’t summon up the energy to accomplish anything. January rain is a depressing cover over the glitter of the holidays. I just don’t feel like moving.

I watched TV until I almost wore it out, or so it seemed. The Great American Baking Show took up two hours and before that I watched the program about Alex Trebek. We all love him.

Allan Showalter posted the finale of Leonard Cohen’s last European show in Amsterdam. I was there, standing by the stage as he sang the last song. The apron was covered in bouquets tossed by loving fans. When we got there, they only had inferior seats left, but when the concert started, Rob got up and left. When he came back, he motioned for me to follow him. He had told the usher we had come all the way from the States and she gave him two great seats in the second row! And after the concert, a tech onstage came up and handed me a set list I didn’t even ask for!

These are the highlights of life. We have no right to complain of the lower ones. So I sit here in gratitude for Leonard Cohen and the way he led so many of us straight into the chambers of the heart. There he lives and sings yet.

That tour was in 2013. Since then we have all gotten older and hopefully wiser. I now know that my life, simple as it is, suits me perfectly.I write a little and record a little, always speaking from a heart that has been cracked wide open. Who knows what I will say next?
