So you are on the spiritual path and you really want to do better. But your raw experience of being human has never heard of the spiritual path. It has its own ways and apparently they trump the way of enlightenment. What is a realistic person to do?

I wrote the paragraph above knowing that God understands this while well-meaning people don’t. Maybe they haven’t crashed and burned yet. Maybe things are working out for them this lifetime. Maybe they came in to be rested, not tested.

After I lost my child, I was more determined than ever to wake up. But the raw experience of grief was having none of it. I didn’t blame it. Tears were washing out the line down the middle of the road and I was having road rage, or “spiritual path” rage a lot.

Not only that, I found myself wanting seclusion more than I wanted a social life. In fact, I have never had a social life, just a pale imitation of one that never satisfied me. Can you relate? If you can, there is hope for you. Because somehow people loving people does not agree with people loving the path of awakening. One is on a higher level than the other.

And as the Works says, “The law of levels is absolute.” If you don’t understand that and are arguing that people are lovable, you haven’t been tested yet. Until then, go ahead and hang out with the crowd. They are inside you, too, by the way. So don’t try to cast your pearls among them.
