The Backstory of an Interview

I have known John LeKay online for years. So long that our first email exchanges are forever lost. I have gone through several new Macs since we became friends. My first book, Life With A Hole In It, had just come out and we began an email exchange. John has always been interested in interviewing people and so the emails were a series of questions from John about suffering. He himself had suffered deeply when he was a child in London and now he was living in New York.

I sensed the depth of his interest in the search in the true way and I think it was a mutual honesty that wove the strands of friendship. It was not a close friendship, though. I was building my website and he had begun his, nonduality-magazine.org. He interviewed me twice and I have one of them posted on my website.

His website got hacked and he has had to rebuild it, one step at a time. He also has a Facebook Page for non-duality magazine.

The interview with John had started out as a Skype call in which he could help me figure out how to use it. He called around 5:30 in the evening and we begin to chat. The call was supposed to take place the next morning, but I was having some problems with Skype, so he called me then to see if I could use Skype properly.

Since we could both see each other, just as you are supposed to on Skype, John suggested that if I wanted to, we could just continue talking and let that be the interview. I was wearing an everyday top and had no idea how I would look. There is nothing behind my computer desk but a bare wall. But the conversation ended up so good that I said, “Go ahead and post it!”

I think you can see how genuine our friendship is by the light that is generated between us. Someone said it was like they were in a room with us; it felt that natural.

So please watch it. You don’t often get such a glimpse into unscripted talk about the inner world of people on the path of awakening.
