The Journey from Head to Heart

I have been a very slow learner about the fact that I am everything and nothing. You guys have benefitted from that, haven’t you? Oh, I hope so. I go over the same lessons again and again and keep failing them. You know what I’m talking about, don’t you?

It is the heart that learns and not the head. You know that, don’t you? Then why do you keep making the same mistakes over and over? I can tell you, but only because I am a slow learner.

The head is not the destination; it is just the starting point. I remember my father jokingly saying, “You’ve got a point there. If you wear a hat, maybe no one will notice.” And I would giggle.

The entire journey is from the head to the heart. And we make it not once but millions of times. Why can’t we stay in the heart? Because our heads don’t trust it, that’s why! And you can’t trust your head. Bernie Siegel says “There is a reason there are no Sacred Head Hospitals!”

So we are caught up in paradox, so much so that we scream out in pain. And all the time it is so easy. Just a shift from head to heart. It is easy but only if consciousness kicks in. Consciousness is another word for awareness. You can’t learn if you are not aware.

So the journey from head to heart can only take place if you are aware. And for that we need energy. We waste energy when we are in our heads. And when we are in our heads, we have no idea about the heart.

What to do? Oh, c’mon. You know the answer to that, don’t you? And if you do, please tell me.

I will stop writing now and hope one person has seen the humor in this Sunday morning essay. Because humor is another path to the heart. I would bet on it.
