Awaiting You

I tossed the moon into the bin.
I threw the stars away again.
It all came back.
It had no end.

I pitched the poems in the fire.
I threw away the ancient lyre.
Before I woke it had come back,
All universes on one track.

The loves I lost,
The hates I felt
Were there among Orion’s Belt.
There around the newest child
Were ancient sorrows growing wild.

I scooped the newest starlight up.
I drank the oceans from my cup.
I watched the seeds fall into earth.
The rains poured down into rebirth.

I sit and watch the words go by.
They never touch the evening sky.
I sleep in shades of midnight blue
Awaiting God, awaiting you.
