Beautifully said, Vicki, and so true. As an introvert who grew up in a military officer’s family, we were forced to socialize. Then, I had to set up receptions and huge events in my job that involved SERIOUS socializing. When we moved to the mountains of North Carolina, I left that behind, including the guilt – especially the guilt – and am now in a place of healing and solitude. I listen to my heart when invitations come our way. If it is with people who honor who I am and nourish me, I am the better for being with these good people and feel rejuvenated in their company. Otherwise, no is the answer and silence is the balm.
so good to hear this, Vicki. Thank you.

It is interesting that what gives us pleasure also gives us guilt, deserved or not.
