News of the Day

One thing I am sure of is that earth is a planetary kindergarten. We are all “special” students of one kind or another. I was listening to Leonard Cohen’s song “Please Don’t Pass Me By.” It is a song that stresses how down and out we all are for one reason or another. It is a song of searching self-honesty and humility.

I did my grocery shopping early. I can see great but can’t read much until I get my new glasses. I chatted with an employee about how the surgery went, since she has it ahead of her. The big problem with me is that I can’t believe how fast the years have gone by. I feel younger than I look. That’s for sure. It is a hard adjustment to see how many wrinkles and sags I have. Before the surgery, I was blissfully ignorant of them!

For some reason I bought several kinds of potatoes; I guess I am comforting myself with them. I also bought a Cuban sandwich for lunch. They are so good. Yesterday I made fudge that turned to brick. Quite a feat! I am going to throw it in the garbage.

How is everyone doing during the dog days of summer? It is so hot here that the air conditioner didn’t do a very good of cooling my bedroom last night. I have had bad insomnia for weeks. I don’t even feel sleepy during the day. It gets boring lying in bed for four hours without sleeping a wink. I play Leonard Cohen CD’s until one finally kicks in and sedates me. I miss him so much.

Well, that is the news of the day.

Love,
Vicki

  1. I honestly believe that summer (especially in the South) fries our brains and causes insomnia. And those sleepless nights bright out all those truths we don’t like to face. I also feel about 26 years old, but I see my Grandmother Nina when I look in the mirror! And, yes. I believe in potatoes as a healing food – lots of potatoes. Hang in there, dear Vicki. I truly believe this is such a great time of transition for you. And lots of us are along for the ride with you!
